Less than two weeks after he was shot in the cheek, Deonta Howard is doing the same things most 3-year-old boys do.
The 3-year-old boy wounded in a mass shooting on a South Side basketball court is back to doing what most boys his age are doing.
Deonta Howard was shot in the cheek in the shooting at Cornell Square Park that left 12 others wounded.
On Monday he appeared at a news conference to help announce that hundreds of children whose lives have been affected by gun violence will be the special guests of the UniverSoul Circus on Tuesday.
Deonta still has a bandage on his face and will need to undergo surgeries until he's 13, but he was smiling and laughing at the event, even saying thank you into the microphone and singing his ABCs.
Tabari Young and Brad Jett, both 22, were each charged last week with three counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Bryon Champ, 21, and Kewane Gatewood, 20, also face charges in the case.
