A dive bomber that flew training missions over Lake Michigan during WWII was lifted from its watery grave on Friday.

The Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber pulled from the lake is the same type credited with winning the Battle of Midway, according to the Evanston Review.

Crews used an inflatable bladder to help lift the wreck to the surface of the water.  The plane seemed remarkably intact after roughly 60 years underwater, with its propeller, glass, wings and tail fin still holding together, according to ABC7. It crashed in the 1940s during aircraft carrier qualification training.

For an interesting play-by-play on how the plane was lifted, check out @newssun's live Twittering of the recovery.

Another SBD Dauntless was pulled from Lake Michigan in 1991. It's currently on display at Midway Airport.
