The 27-year-old Norwegian didn’t just beat the field in the women’s 10-kilometer freestyle on Thursday, she dusted them in the race of a lifetime to earn her first medal in her first Olympics.

Yet again, there was no cross-country skiing medal for an American woman. Jessica Diggins failed in her quest to become the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in cross-country skiing, placing sixth in the final. Sweden’s Stina Nilsson won the sprint from Maiken Caspersen of Norway and Yulia Belorukova.

Marit Bjoergen, the most successful women’s cross-country skier in history, has won three gold medals in each of the past two Winter Games and will be looking to make it three in a row when the Pyeongchang Olympics begin this week.
