Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras surprised his 11-year-old buddy Daniel Rodriguez and 60 of his classmates Thursday at the Enger School of Franklin Park.
The school serves students in the Leyden Area Special Education Cooperative with special needs. Contreras and Daniel have formed a special friendship over the past year after meeting at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge. Contreras and Daniel reconnected when the Cubs sponsored nine families to fly out to spring training in Mesa, Arizona. The catcher also surprised Daniel at Wrigley Field for the boy’s 10th birthday.
Daniel and his classmates were to spend the morning enjoying whiffle ball, ballpark food and other activities with Contreras.
