A boy who was shot in the head late Thursday while on a porch at his West Englewood neighborhood home has died.

Andrew Powell, 15, was pronounced dead Friday at 1:44 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after he was fatally shot at his home in the 7200 block of South Hermitage Avenue, said a spokesperson with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

About 11:55 p.m Thursday, the boy was outside on the porch of the home with three to four other people when two people from across the street opened fire and struck the victim, police said.

Powell's family believes the shooters were firing at someone else that was standing on the porch that may have had gang ties, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The boy was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and was not expected to survive, detectives said. No one else was injured in the attack.

No arrests have been made as of Friday night, but Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
