The Chicago Transit Authority hopes an online makeover that debuted Tuesday will help improve your commute and make it easier to find information and interact with the agency.
The site, at TransitChicago.com, features a bold, graphic design and intuitive navigation. The agency says the new site’s layout and design have all been developed to follow modern web standards, as well as meet both federal and state guidelines for accessibility.
Advancing CTA President Ron Huberman's quest to improve communication with riders, service and status information has been added to the site. RSS feeds allow riders to subscribe to the routes they use most often to get alert and delay information brought to them.
An area labeled "Quick Links" is prominently and consistently placed on pages throughout the site and provides direct access to schedules, maps, customer alerts, Bus Tracker, Chicago Card and fare information.
Select content from the CTA web site will be available in Spanish, Polish and Chinese Simplified.
Previously, customers searching for information on their handheld devices were directed to the same site that desktop users saw. With the debut of the new site, customers searching for pertinent CTA information via their cell phones or other wireless devices will have access to select content from the web site geared toward mobile users.
The CTA says the site will continue to expand and develop as old content is updated and new content is added.
According to the Web site CTAtattler.com, the site redesign was a partnership with Americaneagle.com, a Park Ridge Web development firm that won a $2.6 million contract for several projects, including the Web site -- which cost about $150,000 of that.
