A woman was violently robbed of her cellphone Tuesday in a parking garage elevator on Northwestern University’s downtown Chicago campus, authorities said.
A security alert from the university said “a person not affiliated” with the university was robbed about 5:30 p.m. in the university parking garage located at 222 E. Huron Street.
When she exited the elevator on the 8th floor, one of the individuals attempted to take her telephone out of her hand. She tried to hold on to the phone, and the one of the individuals pushed her out of the elevator, the university said. The pair of alleged crooks stayed in the elevator and made off with the phone.
The woman suffered a scraped knee and refused medical treatment. No weapon was displayed or implied, authorities said.
The first person in the elevator was described by the victim as a black male in his teens with short dreadlock hair, a light complexion and wearing a tan sweater and jeans. The second elevator was described as a black male in his teens, tall, thin, with a dark complexion and wearing a blue plaid shirt and jeans.
The Northwestern University Police Department says all community members should be alert when traveling on or off campus, especially at night.
"Police also advise members of the community to remain observant while walking, keep electronics stored away and avoid being distracted by a phone or other device," the security alert says.

A Northwestern law student was beaten and robbed on the university’s Streeterville campus Sunday night.
Suspicious activity can be immediately reported to University Police or Chicago Police by dialing 911 or by using a Blue Light emergency telephone.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the robbery to contact the University Police Department at 847-491-3456.
