Illinois Sears, Kmart Locations Among New Round of Closures

Numerous Illinois Sears and Kmart locations will close in the coming months as the company continues to rack up financial losses.

According to a press release issued by the company, around 100 stores have been identified as no longer being profitable, and a total of 72 will be closed as the company tries to turn around its fortunes.

At least three of those closures will occur in the Chicagoland area, as Sears locations in Aurora and Gurnee will close their doors. The company’s location in Vernon Hills will also close in September of this year. Liquidation sales could begin as soon as mid-June at the affected locations.

The Kmart location in Rockford will also close, as will the Sears store at 104 West White Oaks Mall in Springfield.

More closures could be announced soon, as a total of 63 Sears and Kmart locations were on the list provided by the company.

In the company’s latest earnings report, Sears lost a total of $424 million last quarter.
