High Winds Cause Delays, Cancellations at O'Hare

Some inbound flights delayed by up to four hours and 48 minutes

Nearly 500 flights were canceled at O'Hare International Airport Friday and some inbound flights experienced major delays because of high winds and winter weather conditions.

Flights leaving O'Hare were experiencing delays of 20 minutes or more for inbound and outbound flights, and 490 flights were canceled.

Departures to Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Des Moines, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Orlando were canceled.

There were even bigger delays for flights scheduled to arrive in Chicago. Some inbound flights saw delays of up to four hours and 48 minutes, according to reports.

The flights likely can't land because of strong winds, according to meteorologists.

The National Weather Service said gusty winds and new snowfall could create hazardous travel conditions through early Saturday morning.

Southwest winds of up to 25 mph may gust up to 35 mph overnight and lead to blowing and drifting snow. Up to three inches of snow could fall in some areas by Saturday.

More than 30 flights were canceled Friday at Midway International Airports.
