Body of Missing Kayaker Found 2 Weeks After Disappearance

The body of a missing suburban kayaker was found over the weekend, two weeks after he disappeared in Lake Michigan waters, authorities confirmed.

According to Highland Park Police, the body of 20-year-old Sebastian Duncan, of Glenview, was located Saturday by a passerby in the Highland Park's Openlands Lake Michigan Shoreline near Fort Sheridan.

He was identified Sunday.

"Please continue to keep the Duncan family in your thoughts during this difficult time," police said in a statement.

The Coast Guard was previously searching for the missing kayaker in Lake Michigan after he went underwater along the Chicago area's North Shore Aug. 27.

Officials said Duncan went kayaking with a friend that evening, launching from north suburban Highland Park.

The duo went out while a small craft advisory was in effect, authorities said, with extreme wind and waves. While the men approached Lake Forest, both of their kayaks sank in the rough conditions.

Neither man was wearing a life vest, officials said, and just one of them was able to make it to shore and call 911.
