Blago's New Job?

We fill out the application

Dear Blago, we couldn't help thinking of you when we saw this ad:

Position: Island caretaker.

Duties: Lazing around Australia's Great Barrier Reef for six months.

Salary: $105,000.

According to AP, the tourism department of Queensland, Australia is seeking "one lucky person to spend half a year relaxing on Hamilton Island, part of the country's Whitsunday Islands, while promoting the island on a blog."

That sounds like just the sort of relaxation you need these days. .

"The winner, who will stay rent-free in a multimillion-dollar three-bedroom beach home complete with pool and golf cart, must be an excellent communicator and be able to speak and write in English."

That is so you!

You might have to crop your hair, though.

"No, I don't think beautiful is what we want, I think charismatic is what we want," Tourism Queensland chief executive Anthony Hayes says. "The reality is we are looking for a fantastic communicator."

The deadline to apply is February 22, so you have plenty of time to wrap up your impeachment trial in the state senate and buy some new running shorts. The top 11 candidates will be flown to Hamilton Island in May, perhaps to find out what the candidates are willing to pony up for the appointment. You still have plenty of money in your campaign fund, right?

It's only a six-month assignment, but if you do a good job, who knows?

"I think the biggest risk will be that the successful candidate won't want to go home at the end of the six months," Tourism Minister Desley Boyle says.

We can only hope.
