A 57-year-old man died in south suburban Harvey Monday morning, marking Cook County’s eighth cold-related death this season.
Heverry Agee Jr. was found in the 300 block of Calumet Boulevard and taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he was pronounced dead at 10:45 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Agee lived in the 14400 block of Halsted Street in Harvey, authorities said.
An autopsy Friday found he died of a brain hemorrhage and heart disease, with a combination of hypothermia, lung disease and drug intoxication listed as secondary causes. His death was ruled an accident.
Monday’s low temperature in Harvey was minus-3 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Another man found earlier that morning in South Chicago Heights was the county’s seventh death since Nov. due at least partly to cold exposure.
Last winter, 26 people died at least partly from cold exposure in Cook County, according to the medical examiner’s office. During the 2013-14 season, there were 32 confirmed cold-related deaths.
