5 Injured in West Rogers Park Apartment Fire

Five people were injured, including a Chicago police officer, in West Rogers Park apartment fire on Chicago’s Northwest Side early Monday morning.

Fire crews responded to the flames just after 12 a.m. on the second story of a two-story apartment building in the 6000 block of North California Avenue, police said.

Two women were rescued through the building’s front windows and taken down ladders by firefighters. A third person was rescued from the blaze by being brought down a stairwell, according to fire officials.

A Chicago police officer who was responding to the call suffered an asthma attack and transported to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
