Illinois Sees Shrinking Green

Indiana shows increase in environmentally friendly jobs as Illinois slips

The green is shrinking in Illinois and it's not just in terms of money.

The number of environmentally friendly jobs in Illinois dropped by 2.5 percent between 1998 and 2007, according to a study by the Pew Charitable Trust.

By contrast, WBEZ radio reports, Indiana’s green job sector has grown by nearly 18 percent.

Almost every other Midwestern state also added green jobs over that time period.

WBEZ  quotes Pew’s Lori Grange, who says Illinois gets good marks for recent policies like financial incentives and clean-energy standards.
