One Elk Grove man took the term "drive-thru restaurant" a bit too literally.

Charles Burt, 31, drove his 2003 Chevrolet Impala directly into a Brown's Chicken on November 2 at about 11:30 p.m. The driver admitted he was traveling at least 75 m.p.h. when he struck the building. Damages are estimated at more than $10,000.

But Burt wasn't suffering from an aggressive attack of midnight munchies.

He told police he was feeling hopeless and sad, and he wanted to get the attention of his ex-girlfriend who lived near the restaurant.

Dude, next time, send her a card.

No one inside the restaurant suffered injuries. Burt pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage to property and was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

No word on whether the ex-girlfriend finally noticed him.
