Multiple rounds of rain and storms were expected to hit the Chicago area Thursday.
The first round started Thursday morning and was expected to be fast-moving before another, potentially more severe round, moves in for the afternoon. Already by 7:30 a.m., ground stops were issued at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports. (See a timeline of Thursday's storms here)
While no severe weather alerts had been issued by 7:30 a.m., special weather statements were in place for several northwest suburbs.
