A person died Monday evening after they were struck by a Red Line train at the Loyola station.
A Howard-bound train struck the person about 7:35 p.m. at the Loyola station, authorities said.
The person was dead at the scene, according to Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Frank Velez. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but did not release additional details.
No Howard-bound trains were operating north of Bryn Mawr as a result of the crash, said CTA spokeswoman Ibis Antongiorgi. Southbound Red Line trains were operating, but bypassing the Loyola station.
Passengers were urged to use the No. 151 Sheridan and the No. 147 Outer Drive Express buses as an alternative to Red Line service. Shuttle buses were also made available between Addison and Howard streets.
Linden-bound Purple Line trains were operating with residual delays, Antongiorgi said. Trains were moving and normal service was being restored.
