Soldier Field May Switch to Field Turf

For as long as the Chicago Bears have played at Soldier Field, they’ve played on grass.

But after the team and the Chicago Park District spent $500,000 re-sodding the field this month, they’re considering a switch to artificial turf

"The Bears and the Park District should definitely sit down and explore the options in the offseason," Soldier Field general manager Tim LeFevour said. "It would probably benefit all parties."

Most of the players are in favor of switching to some sort of infill surface, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The turf, which is usually made of rubber fill, plays faster than natural grass, an attribute that could benefit the Bears’ speedy receivers and linebackers.
