Writer-director Jason Reitman was appropriately gobsmacked by his Best Screenplay win for "Up in the Air."
"Quentin, I'm still waiting for them to say your name -- I'm really confused right now," said Reitman as he stared incredulously at his shiny new prize. Reitman shares the award with Sheldon Turner, who co-wrote the adaptation of Walter Kirn's novel of the same name.
"Up in the Air" has already proven wrong some misguided predictions that its stars and creators would be shut out tonight.
Just the same, history will almost certainly look back on "Up in the Air" as wildly overrated, both of Reitman's previous films, "Thank You for Smoking" and "Juno" were better -- particularly their screenplays. He's got a lot of great films in him, no doubt, but this wasn't one of them.
