Woman Shoots Would-Be Robber in the Neck at Chicago Bus Stop

A woman fatally shot a man who attempted to rob her at a bus stop on Chicago's South Side early Tuesday, according to police.

The incident took place at around 5:44 a.m. in the 500 block of West 103rd Street in the city's Fernwood neighborhood, officials said.

A 19-year-old man approached a 25-year-old woman standing at a bus stop and tried to steal something from her, authorities said, when she pulled out a gun and shot him.

She shot him once in the neck, according to police, who said he somehow managed to grab her gun and flee the scene.

Authorities said responding officers caught the man about a block away and took him to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he later died from his injury.

The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality and further details, including his identity, were not available. 

The woman, who has a valid concealed carry license, was not injured in the encounter, according to police.
