An observed tornado was reported near the Illinois-Indiana border during Memorial Day storms that tore through the Chicago area, leaving trails of damage, flooding, power outages and more.
The National Weather Service reported trained spotters indicated a tornado may have touched down in far southeast Cook County east of Sauk Village and near Dyer, Indiana.
Further confirmation on whether the system in fact touched the ground was not immediately available. It remained unclear if there were any injuries or damage in the storm.
Memorial Day afternoon in the Chicago area saw severe storms that dumped piles golf ball-sized hail and brought intense winds and torrential rain.

The first wave of storms brought Tornado Warnings to numerous counties. Wind gusts in excess of 70 mph, hail ranging from the size of peas to golf balls and rainfall totals of more than two inches were reported within less than an hour.

As the storms made their way through the area, more than 12,800 ComEd customers were left without power, particularly in the western and southern suburbs. ComEd said it was working to restore service as soon as possible.
