Search Continues For Missing Maywood Boy

Community members, independent k-9 trainer assisting with search for Bryeon Hunter

Police and resident volunteers gathered Saturday to conduct a search in the Des Plaines River for the body of a 1-year-old boy who went missing earlier this month.

More than a week after the Maywood boy went missing, authorities have no new leads on his whereabouts.

One-year-old Bryeon Hunter was the subject of an Amber Alert on April 16, but authorities now believe the boy is dead. His mother, Lakeshia Baker and her boyfriend, Michael Scott, have been charged with first-degree murder.

Police believe the boy was beaten and tossed into the Des Plaines River.

Recent flooding has hindered the search, but Maywood's police chief told NBC 5 that searches have been ongoing every day in various capacities, including the coordinated search scheduled for Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Independent k-9 trainer Robert Larson has been walking along the river for several days, and says his dog has indicated three strong hits in the same area. A forensics team with the Cook County Sheriff's Department took soil samples from the area Friday, but won't know more until the samples are tested.

A handful of community members have also been searching the area over the past few days, including Saturday morning. Volunteers met at the McDonald's at Lake and 1st Avenue.
