The windows of more than a dozen cars parked on a street Wednesday in a North Side neighborhood were smashed by vandals, police said.
“I came out this morning to go to work and there was a brick through my rear-window," car owner Alvin Freeman said.
Chicago police say they responded to calls of property damage around 4 a.m.
When they arrived here in Rogers Park, they found multiple vehicles with their windows smashed. In some cases the brick still laying amidst the shards of shattered glass.
"I guess there were other cars that had their windows busted out but I didn’t notice until I got into my car getting ready to pull off and glass started falling down," Freeman said.
Some residents, like Dustin Borlack, woke up to find their cars vandalized taped them up, others took them to get them fixed.
"I was walking out to start working and as you can see my whole rear windshield is just busted open," Borlack said. "Brick laying in there. Yeah, not fun.”
Local
Police say at least a dozen cars were hit in the 7500 block of North Ridge Boulevard and the 2200 block of West Howard Street in what appears to be a random act of vandalism. Nothing was reported missing from inside the vehicles.
"That usually never doesn’t happen here, so somebody was clearly just looking to cause some trouble," Borlack said.
In the 2100 block of West Fargo shattered glass litters a parking spot this afternoon, a brick laying on the curb just feet away.
John Terflinger has lived in the neighborhood since 2013 and parks near the area where car windows were smashed.
"Our spot is right behind the building," he said. "And I wanted to come out and see what was going on at the risk of our car being damaged too. So, yeah, it’s a scary thing."
Police say at this time they are questioning a person of interest but no charges have been filed. Anyone with information about the property damage is asked to contact area central detectives.
