A Maywood man was charged Tuesday in connection with a Sunday crash that took the life of a Chicago great-grandmother.
Police say Maurice L. McDowell, 32, was behind the wheel of the car that struck and killed Jennie Davis who was crossing the street in the 5500 block of West North Avenue.
McDowell faces one felony count of Aggravated DUI/Accident/Death, one felony count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Injury/Death, one felony count of Failure to Report Accident/Death and three additional misdemeanor counts including Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
Police say McDowell's car was found abandoned about a half-mile away from the scene of the accident.
Family members say Davis had survived five heart attacks in four years before becoming victim to the hit-and-run accident.
