Lollapalooza Unveils Colorful 2012 Lineup

Mix of veteran performers join newer acts on summer festival bill

If you're looking for a theme for this summer's Lollapalooza festival, start with color.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Sabbath, Jack White and the Black Keys are among the headliners at the this year's festival, scheduled for August 3-5 in Grant Park. (View Full Lineup).

Lollapalooza sticks to its reputation for mixing newer acts with the more established, but Ozzy Osbourne's debut at the festival seems to stick out. The performance will mark Black Sabbath's only North American performance of 2012.

Other headliners include Avicii and Justice -- the first time electronic artists take over a main stage -- indie darlings Florence and the Machine and a reunion of Texas hardcore rockers At The Drive Inn.

The popular Perry's Stage, dedicated to dance music and named for Lolla founder Perry Farell, returns this year with a bigger lineup on a bigger stage, and includes acts such as Bassnectar, Kaskade and Calvin Harris.

Hip hop fans will likely raise their annual complaint about a lack of representation, but rappers on the bill include the return of J.Cole -- albeit now that he's more of a household name -- Wale and Doomtree.

Chicago acts JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound, Kid Color and DJ Zebo are all part of the lineup, a marked decrease from the 11 local performers that took the stage in 2011, although more acts may be added in the weeks to come.

Organizers will be holding their breath for pleasant weather after the downpour in 2011 toward the end of the festival caused extensive damage to the lawn and forced the promoters to fork over tens of thousands of dollars for the repairs.

Texas-based C3 Presents are already a little lighter in the wallet this year after city yanked it's tax exemption.

Three day tickets are currently available for $230. Single day tickets will be released when the specific days that the bands will be performing is released.
