Republican Congressman Mark Kirk wants the government's money back.
Kirk told reporters in Chicago on Monday that taxpayers are due a refund from banks that got federal bailout money but still handed out more than $18 billion in bonuses.
President Barack Obama has blasted the same bonuses as "shameful."
A representative from Chicago's northern suburbs, Kirk said he would back legislation in Washington to try to get back some of the bailout money.
The average Wall Street bonus was about $112,000. Some argue bonuses are part of workers' compensation packages, not extra money.
Not everyone on Wall Street got a bonus. The top executives at major banks gave them up.
