It took 59 minutes and 57 seconds for the Chicago Blackhawks to score a goal on Sunday night, but it wasn't enough as they fell 2-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Brent Seabrook scored the lone goal of the game for the Blackhawks as they lost their second game in a row.
The game got off to an inauspicious start for both teams, as the Blackhawks racked up early scoring chances and failed to convert on any of them. Phillip Danault had a redirected shot that went just wide of the cage, and he was denied on a charge to the crease. Teuvo Teravainen also had a shot fly wide, and Brent Seabrook had a shot sail just over the crossbar to keep the game scoreless after 20 minutes of play.
Whereas the first period saw some scoring chances, the early stages of the second period saw the offense slow down to a crawl for both teams. Even a power play for the Blackhawks wasn't enough to shake the team from its doldrums, and the game remained scoreless as the lethargic pace continued.
After a couple of signs of life from the Blackhawks, the Hurricanes ended up scoring the game's first goal. Justin Faulk broke into the zone with the puck, and using Seabrook as a screen he fired a quick wrist shot that beat Corey Crawford on the blocker side to put Carolina up 1-0.
As the third period got underway, the Hurricanes continued to show some offensive mettle, and they scored a key insurance goal as a result. Jeff Skinner won the initial face-off in the offensive zone, and after he got the puck back he found an open Victor Rask at the top of the circle, and he ultimately fired a shot past Crawford's glove to make it a 2-0 game.
The Blackhawks had their fair share of scoring chances in the game's final minutes, but the Hurricanes were able to repel most of them. The Seabrook goal came on a backhanded flip shot from the slot, but it wasn't enough as the Blackhawks lost for the second game in a row.
