Gluttony Tour Chews Through Chicago

Chicago competitive eaters host four food challenges through the city

Who's hungry?

There'll be enough food to feed the entire Chicago Bears roster when the Gluttony Tour 2012 eats its way through Chicago this weekend.

Two of the top competitive eaters in the world, Chicago's Gravy Brown and Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti, created the Glutton Force Five food truck to try and convince city lawmakers to loosen up food truck restrictions.

Their work may not have been in vain, as Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced an ordinance this week that would allow food truck operators to cook food on the truck, rather than prepare and pre-package it in an off-site commercial kitchen.

But the party still goes on, kicking off June 29th at Wicker Park's The Fifty/50. Patrons will be encouraged to compete in a challenge that includes 50 items off the menu, including a 40 oz of Old Style.

On June 30th, the Glutton Force Five heads to Paddy Longs where the Bacon Bomb will be unveiled. Challengers have 45 minutes to eat the 5 pound spicy beef and pork meat loaf stuffed with bacon and wrapped in a brown sugar bacon weave accompanied by 1 pound of fries.

Later that night, take a hungry friend to Jake Melnick's Corner Tap. Two people are dared to tackle Jake's 8-pound "Monster Burger" in 45 minutes, which includes all the fixings of lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese, pickles and Jake's special secret sauce along with a basket of fries.

On July 1st it's on to Lucky's Wrigleyville and the Dagwood Challenge -- 15 minutes to eat three Dagwood sandwiches with fries, nearly 5 pounds worth of food.

Each location is donating a portion of sales during the eating competitions to the Chicago Food Bank.

The parties also serve as a send off for Brown and Bertoletti as they head to New York on July Fourth for the annual Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Championship.

May the force -- and some Tum's -- be with you.
