Rep. Jan Schakowsky held a “Chicago Trumps Hate” event downtown Tuesday morning condemning the high-priced fundraiser. Tickets for the event range from $10,000 to $100,000.
Additionally, NextGen Climate Illinois, an environmental advocacy organization, held a rally Tuesday afternoon to speak out against Trump’s “divisive agenda.”
The protest took place at Trump Tower downtown, where the ritzy fundraiser is reportedly being held. NextGen Climate Illinois was joined by Latino Policy Forum’s A.C.C.E.S.S. student group and Muslim Democrats.
The group said it wants to “hold Trump accountable for his terrifying energy plan, and the attacks on immigrants and minorities that have defined his campaign and put you Illinoisans’ futures at risk."
Trump last visited Chicago in the lead-up to the March 15 primary, when he cancelled a rally at the last minute after protesters and supporters clashed at the UIC Pavilion, where the event was scheduled to take place. Nevertheless, Trump won the state's Republican presidential primary with nearly 39 percent of the vote.
Trump's campaign was short on details about Tuesday's event, only noting that it was "closed to the press." According to the Chicago Tribune, Trump is set to collect over $1 million in campaign funding from the event.
