Cicero Town President Larry Dominick has been made into a cartoon character for a children's comic book.
Earlier this month, copies of the book were passed out to hundreds of underprivileged children at a town Christmas party. They feature cartoon Dominick, who was characterized to look similar to real life town president.
Created to promote literacy and reading, the 20-page comic book tells a story of two cartoon children who get invited to a Christmas party. Dominick, who is also at the party, hands out free presents and gets praised in return.
It goes without saying that Dominick is already a rather colorful character. It's even believed he was secretly recorded by the FBI.
That leaves some asking if it's a good idea for him to be featured in a comic book for children. But Town of Cicero spokesman Ray Hanania isn't among them.
"Is it wrong for a politician to put their name on things that the town produces? I don't think it is wrong," said Hanania.
Hanania said the book was the idea of a local artist and that Dominick only agreed to be the star character after he was asked. The cost of the production: somewhere between $3,500 and $5,000.
"If you think it's wrong, pass a law," said Hanania. "Make it mandatory that no politician, anywhere in the state of Illinois, can appear on any publication, take all their names off it. Do it across the board. Personally, I would support it."
