There is a possibility that snow could be in the air this weekend as temperatures dive.
Christmas Eve will start dry, but early predictions indicate there is a chance for light snow beginning in the afternoon and evening and continuing into Christmas Day.

Models still differ on exactly how much snow could fall in the area, but there is a possibility for some flakes. Snowfall predictions currently sit between a dusting to a little over an inch possible by Monday morning.
The National Weather Service defines a “white Christmas” as one with an inch or more of snow on the ground Christmas morning.

Historically, Chicago isn’t known for Christmas snowfall.
Since 1885, when snowfall data began being recorded, the area has seen 61 Christmas Days with no snow and 27 with a trace of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Forty-four years have seen snow of an inch or more.
The highest amount of snowfall recorded on Christmas was in 1950, when 5.1 inches of snow fell. Last year, no snow fell on Christmas Day.

Even without snow, this Christmas Day could see some bitter cold temperatures. Highs are predicted to be in the 20s, but sub-zero wind chills are possible.
