Storms producing heavy downpours, lightning and at times small hail Monday evening pelted parts of Illinois near I-80 and were expected to continue into Wednesday morning.
Be alert for minor flooding of area roadways. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. If you hear thunder or see lightning, head indoors til storms pass.
Tuesday began overcast, breezy, damp and chilly with areas of dense fog along the lake and light to moderate showers developing across the region by late morning.
As far as temperatures go, areas to the north will likely hold in the mid 40s overnight, but as the wind shifts, temps will rise to the low 60s south of I-80, and to the 50s north, by dawn.
That sets the stage for a mostly cloudy and milder day on Wednesday, with temperatures even climbing well into the 60s in most areas, even reaching the 70s south of I-80.
But don't swap the umbrellas for sunscreen just yet. The chance for more showers and isolated strong storms returns late Wednesday afternoon and evening as a cold front passes, causing temperatures to drop as well.

A few showers linger Thursday morning before clouds break for partial sun in the afternoon, though scattered showers and storms will be possible late.
But there's a light at the end of the rainy tunnel, Chicago - and it's the potential for a sunny weekend.
Friday looks to be partly to mostly sunny and pleasant with highs in the low to mid 60s inland, cooler by lake, with conditions staying much the same but perhaps even a touch warmer on Saturday.
Sunday begins with mostly sunny skies that turn partly cloudy in the afternoon with a chance for showers to return in the evening.
