Suspect in Custody After Barricade Situation in Edgewater: Police

Authorities said they were called for an assault in progress near Olive and Hermitage Avenues when a man near the scene fled into a nearby residence

A suspect is in custody following a barricade situation in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood Friday after a man believed to be involved in a disturbance fled into a residence. 

Police said the man was taken into custody around 3:45 p.m., hours after the incident began. An ambulance was at the scene but it remained unclear if the man was injured. 

Authorities were called to the scene for an assault in progress near Olive and Hermitage Avenues when a man near the scene fled into a nearby residence in the 1600 block of West Hollywood Avenue, according to police. 

Officials said no hostages were involved and the man was in the basement of an apartment building on the block. It was unclear if he had a weapon.

A heavy police presence could be seen in the area. Hollywood Avenue was closed from Ashland to Hermitage.
