The Chicago Cubs finished off a 10-game homestand in style on Sunday night, beating the Milwaukee Brewers and grabbing a two-game lead in the National League Central Division.

The Cubs finished off an 8-2 homestand with a victory thanks to some strong pitching from Jon Lester, who gave up just one unearned run despite allowing nine hits in 6.2 innings of work, and the Cubs’ bullpen, who held the potent Brewers’ offense at bay in the victory.

Kris Bryant hit his fifth home run in the last eight games, a drive to left-center that scored Albert Almora Jr. in the seventh inning. Javier Báez had an RBI double in the contest to help pace Chicago’s victory.

The Cubs got on the board early in the first inning, with Willson Contreras scoring an RBI groundout to drive in Bryant and put Chicago ahead 1-0. That score stayed in place until the fourth, when Christian Yelich reached on an error and scored on a single from Jesus Aguilar to knot things up at 1-1.

From there, Lester and the bullpen held Milwaukee off the scoreboard, and the Cubs’ offense picked up the slack. Báez doubled to deep right center to score Bryant in the fifth, and then Bryant continued his recent run of hot play with a home run in the seventh to seal the victory.

The Cubs will have a day off before heading to Cincinnati to take on the Reds beginning on Tuesday night.
