Another round of harsh winter weather clobbered the Chicago area Tuesday, with painfully high winds and bitter cold temperatures. While there is some relief in sight, things will get worse before they get better.
Light snow showers and flurries ended early Tuesday morning, leaving a cloudy, windy and frigid cold day in its place. Monday morning saw some of the coldest air of the season, with temps hovering around zero and wind chills dropping as low as 15 below zero.
On Tuesday the whipping wind chills weren't much better, with with gusts reaching upwards of 35 mph in some areas. Temps remained between 10 to 15 degrees, with below-zero wind chill readings.
Temperatures late Tuesday and early Wednesday morning will drop into the single digits as wind chills dip to near 20 degrees below-zero– but there is some relief in sight.
Wednesday will bring the beginning of a warm-up for the area, despite a partly sunny and cold morning. Some light snow flurries are expected to develop by early afternoon with little to no accumulation expected. Highs climb marginally, reaching the low 20s by late afternoon.
On Thursday the temperatures are expected to inch up again into the milder upper-30s in the afternoon with partly sunny and breezy skies.
Friday will end the work week with rain showers likely to develop in the late morning or early afternoon, mixing with snow in the evening. High temperatures will likely near 40 degrees before another drop for the weekend.
