Police said an autopsy Monday indicated his death was a homicide

The body of a 20-year-old University of Illinois student who went missing last weekend has been found, officials said Monday.

The body of Vicente Mundo was found Saturday between Interstates 45 and 57 near Willard Airport. Police said an autopsy Monday indicated his death was a homicide.

Mundo, of the 300 block of East Chalmers Street in Champaign, was last seen Jan. 25 when he left a campus apartment to meet a friend. He was wearing a red Chicago Blackhawks baseball cap, blue coat and red backpack.

Family and friends of Mundo gathered Monday night in a church in Little Village to remember Mundo.

His family had offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his whereabouts after reporting him missing on Jan. 27.

Police said they are still searching for his car, a silver 2006 Acura TL with black rims and dark tinted windows, bearing Illinois License plate 2557 B over D. The license plate was a Chicago Bears specialty plate.

Police ask that anyone who knows of anything Mundo did over the weekend he was last seen, beginning Jan. 23, or anyone with information call (217) 384-1213.

The sheriff’s office said Mundo’s death does not appear to be connected to the disappearance of a former student, 23-year-old Christian Zamora.
