7 Kids Found Home Alone

No charges filed as of 4 a.m.

Seven children were taken to an area hospital after being discovered home alone Sunday morning in the South Side’s Woodlawn neighborhood.

Police responded to the home in the 6400 block of  South Cottage Grove Avenue late Sunday morning, according to a police source.

When officers arrived at the home at 11:25 a.m. they discovered the seven children home without a guardian, according to police News Affairs Officer John Henry, who said the incident occurred in the Grand Crossing police District.

All seven children were taken in good condition to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, according to Henry, who did not know how old the children were.

The children are 12, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 16-months, according to the source. It was not immediately known where their reportedly 28-year-old mother was.

Henry said no charges had been filed in the incident as of 4 a.m. Monday and no one was in custody.
