Don't be blind to vitamin B.
B-vitamins and folic acid can prevent the most common type of blindness called macular degeneration, according to a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
More than 5,000 women took the supplements, and lowered their risk of getting the disease by 40 percent. The vitamins appear to lower the amount of homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine has been linked to macular degeneration. The only other way to help prevent the condition is for smokers to stop smoking.
Before doctors can recommend the vitamin therapy, researches say they need new studies to find the perfect doses of the supplements.
