Opening Day

It was a fun morning at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show (the largest auto show in North America, in case we haven't told you 800 times). McCormick Place was buzzing about opening day, people outside the gates were curious about what cars would be the coolest, which would have sweetest technology, and which ones they could see themselves going fast in. (To quote Ricky Bobby from Talledega Nights: "I wanna go fast!")

Fans also were wondering if there has been any progress on making vehicles more fuel efficient, more eco-friendly, and simply what kind of deals could they see themselves considering in the future. So call it a tempered excitement I guess.

I witnessed Mark Scarpelli and the gang take Gov. Pat Quinn on a tour of the show. Quinn wanted to go straight to the Ford display, he walked up onto the stage and hopped right in the 2010 Ford Taurus.  He took a look around and seemed to be pleased and interested in learning more. Compared to the previous governor, he seem genuine in his excitement and his curiosity about what was on the floor (oh, and he was on time for the 10 a.m. ceremony, actually a bit early!)
