Dad Digs a Boat

Take Pops out on the open water for Father's Day

You did a pretty good job with Mother's Day; the card was on time, you actually made brunch reservations in advance, and you managed to show up only 10 minutes late but with flowers in hand. Nice work. Now it's getting close to the time to show dear old Dad you care just as much. Impressing the old man is a little more difficult, so get creative this year and plan something you know he'll love -- like a boat ride along Lake Michigan complete with food and entertainment. The Odyssey, Spirit of Chicago and Mystic Blue cruises are all offering cruises on Sunday, June 21.

The Odyssey cruise works well for the father who can appreciate a signature chocolate fountain, a glass of champagne upon boarding and either a buffet brunch or plated dinner complete with award-winning wine list and live entertainment. ($74.90-79.90)

The Spirit of Chicago has the glass of champagne and the largest open-air deck of any ship in Chicago, but is a bit more casual with a DJ for dancing and buffet for brunch or dinner. ($49.90-64.90)

And for the low key dad who would appreciate a casual afternoon brunch and DJ entertainment (but also a glass of champagne upon boarding), consider a Mystic Blue Cruise ($45.90).
On all Father's Day cruises, children ages three to 11 are half-price; children under age three are free.
