If you attended a Chicago Public School, your classroom could have included the next Bo Diddley, Quincy Jones, Jennifer Hudson, or Kanye West.
All of those artists, and many more, are Chicago Public School alumni. Now students can be inspired and listen to them all on one playlist.
Brad Harbaugh, the editor of cpsalumni.org, put together a playlist featuring 53 songs by musicians who ever attended Chicago schools.
"I was struck by the number of famous musicians that we had who really changed the landscape of music," Harbaugh told the Chicago Tribune.
The playlist is accessible through the alumni site or on iTunes under the iMix category. It includes hits like "Rawhide" by Frankie Laine (Lane Tech), "I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly (Kenwood Academy), and "Renegade" by Styx (Harlan High; Calumet).
"What I take out of this is that from the Chicago Public Schools you can go anywhere and do anything," said Harbaugh. "We want students today and people today to know that the sky is the limit."
