Bitter Cop Seeks Revenge in “Max Payne”

Actor Mark Wahlberg, the star of the new movie "Max Payne," says he can relate to his character, a renegade cop out for revenge after his family and partner are murdered. Wahlberg himself is a father.

"I have three beautiful children," Wahlberg explained during a recent stop in Chicago to promote the movie. "God forbid if something were to happen to my kids."

In the movie, Max Payne will stop at nothing to track down the killers. But his pursuit thrusts him into a world of darkness and betrayal he never saw coming. "Max Payne" the movie is loosely based on a video game by the same name.

"I grew up playing video games that had no story whatsoever," Wahlberg said of his initial skepticism of the movie's premise. "Obviously this one has a very intricate story and plot and it's very cinematic so it seemed like a natural fit."

The movie also stars rapper Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, who continues to add to his acting resume.

"I strategically pick these roles," Bridges said. "I'm gearing up for the time that I can star in a role myself.

"Max Payne" opens in Chicago theaters, October 17th.
