6-Year-Old Calls for Help After Mom Passes Out — Twice

Kid calls school principal when mom won't wake up

A suburban 6-year-old is being praised for his presence of mind after he called for emergency help when his mother wouldn't wake up -- twice.

In both instances, the Buffalo Grove boy called his school for help when he was unable to wake his passed out mom.

Last week, paramedics woke the woman and transported her to Highland Park Hospital, where she was treated. Authorities said she passed out after mixing alcohol with prescription medicine.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been notified, after a similar situation was reported last month.

Buffalo Grove Battalion Fire Chief Larry Swieca said he'd like the young hero to call 911, instead of his school principal, but getting help one way or the other is the priority.
