The show takes place along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach as the focal point.

Headliners include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights and the U.S. Navy Parachute Team Leap Frogs.

Be sure to get there on time Saturday to catch actor Vince Vaughn, who will perform a tandem jump with the Golden Knights, and is expected to land on North Avenue Beach at around 11 a.m.

Chicago's eyes will be peeled toward the sky this weekend for the annual Air and Water Show Saturday and Sunday.

The air and water showcases are combined this year for the first time, providing a continuous show from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

City officials are urging people to avoid the expected gridlock near the lakefront by taking public transportation or parking at either Millennium Park or East Monroe Garages where a free shuttle will be provided to and from North Avenue Beach.

Cooling buses will be provided at Oak Street, North Avenue, Fullerton and Diversey underpasses to help combat the expected sweltering heat.

    Alternative Ways to Catch Show

The only way to get a prime spot on the beach to catch the show is to get there early, but if you'd rather not battle your neighbor, there are other options:

    •   Odyssey, Spirit of Chicago, and Mystic Blue are offering a full schedule of cruises with premium views on their vessels during the Air & Water Show. Catch the show along with buffet food and live entertainment with packages ranging from $50 - $80. Log on to www.EntertainmentCruises.com for more information.
    •   Castaways on North Avenue Beach always offers a prime viewing opportunity, albeit for a price. $160 each day gets you breakfast, lunch and an open bar. Email contact@stefanigroup.com for ticket information.
    •   RIVA Crab House at Navy Pier offers air show-themed cocktails and dollar oysters during the show. The Navy Pier Beer Garden, The Point at the Pier and The Point Café are short walks away and all offer prime viewing spots for the show.
    •   The Signature Room at 95th inside the Hancock Tower allows you to catch the air action almost from eye level. Plus, you get to avoid the sweltering heat, a buffet and open bar. Admission is $100 per person for each day of the show. Call 312-280-0461 to RSVP.
