Foo Fighters To Play Cubby Bear on Friday

Concert follows a screening of the premiere episode of HBO's "Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways"

Here's something you don't see every day: The Foo Fighters are playing the Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville this week.

Yes, really. Jam Productions announced Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear will perform at 11 p.m. Friday after a screening of the premiere episode of HBO's "Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways."

Tickets quickly sold out after going on sale Wednesday morning.

The performance, which Jam says will feature the "first ever in-concert performance of the new single 'Something from Nothing' from the band's forthcoming album," corresponds with a live stream of the premiere party concert on HBO's Facebook page.

The band announced in May it would film the making of its new album, also called "Sonic Highways," in the eight-part cable series. The first episode prominently features The Cubby Bear, where Jam says Grohl saw his first punk rock show.

The series, directed by Grohl, features a different "American musical landmark" in eight cities, including Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles and New York.

The Foo Fighters were spotted in Chicago in January, and pictures on social media showed the former Nirvana drummer riding the Brown Line by himself and visiting Piece Pizzeria & Brewery.

“Dave’s heartfelt passion for this project is contagious and his talent as a musician and filmmaker is undeniable,” Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, said in a statement. ”We are excited to go on this journey with him and the Foo Fighters for this insider’s look at how regional music inspired them to create their own new music.”

Jam Productions says a two-ticket limit per customer "will be strictly enforced," and ticket holders and their guests must check in at the same time. IDs must be presented at the door. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.

HBO will show an archived version of the show at a later date.
