Food, wine and rock 'n' roll reign supreme at the Sound Opinions Dinner Event

Blondie named its 1979 album "Eat to the Beat," and clearly the cutting-edge band was on to something. In one of the more inspired dinner pairings we've heard of, music critics Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times and Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune have put together a night of music, food and wine to benefit their Chicago Public Radio rock 'n' roll talk show, Sound Opinions.

The event will take place on Friday, June 19 at 7PM, with the location kept top secret until you sign up. What we do know is that DeRogatis and Kot have chosen five albums as the basis for a gourmet multi-course meal. Working with Clandestino, a Chicago community dining project, and Candid Wines, a local wine distributor, the music selected by the Sound Opinions hosts will provide the inspiration for the one-of-a-kind culinary experience.

Of course, the music will also serve as the evening's backdrop, played on a custom sound system designed by Audio Consultants. So, what can you expect to hear? Well, DeRogatis and Kot aren't giving up the goods, but rumor has it the tracks include Chicago-centric artists like Buddy Guy, Curtis Mayfield, Frankie Knuckles and Naked Raygun. Expect a heaping helping of music history, clever dishes made with local ingredients and thought-provoking wine pairings.

The Sound Opinions dinner event is priced at $250 per person, with proceeds benefitting the ongoing programming of the show.
