Report: Deshaun Watson Out of Houston Even If Texans Hire Eric Bieniemy

Report: Watson out of Houston even with perfect coach originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Deshaun Watson saga continued with an interesting new nugget on Sunday. According to Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter, not even hiring the perfect coach will be enough to keep Watson in Houston.

While the growing fracture between the Texans and Watson has been widely reported, some thought that hiring Eric Bieniemy could help repair the relationship. From there Houston could have a chance to convince Watson to stay. Watson reportedly advocated for the Texans to interview Bieniemy, who is currently the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator.

Watson is a unique talent, so nearly every team in the league should be interested in making a trade for him. However since he is so talented, making a deal for Watson will likely come with a hefty price tag as well. Expectations are teams would have to give up many first round picks, or a mix of first-rounders and starting-caliber players.

Watson led the NFL with 4,823 passing yards in 2020.
