The Chicago Cubs got to sit back and watch this year’s National League wild card game rather than playing in it, but one member of the team’s leadership had better plans for the evening.
According to Cubs President Theo Epstein, manager Joe Maddon eschewed taking notes on the team’s potential opponent for a good beverage and perhaps to catch one of his favorite game shows.
“Joe doesn’t even watch our games after he gets kicked out,” Epstein said during a press availability. “He pours himself a glass of wine and watches Family Feud.”
The famously-laid back Maddon has said repeatedly that he pours himself a glass of wine (he even had a wine cooler installed in his new office at Wrigley Field during the offseason) after he’s ejected from games, but his television habits are certainly interesting. Does he prefer the old-school Feud with Richard Dawson, or does he watch the show with current host Steve Harvey?
That question remains unanswered, but there was one thing that was publicized before the game: that Maddon wouldn’t be sitting in front of the television with a notepad in hand.
“I used to be,” Maddon said when he was asked if he was a note-taker. “It’s a bad way to live.”
