Former Cubs Pitcher Castillo Drowns in Arizona

Frank Castillo, 44, was father to two daughters

Frank Castillo, who pitched 13 seasons in the majors for the Cubs, Red Sox, and four other teams, drowned Saturday in a lake near his home in Arizona, reported on Monday afternoon.

He was 44.

Authorities said Castillo was on a pontoon boat on Bartlett Lake with a friend when he decided to go swimming. He entered the water and never surfaced.

"Frank was a wonderful son, terrific brother, and an extraordinary father to his two beautiful girls," Castillo's family said in a statement to Arizona TV station KVIA.

Castillo played for the Cubs for seven years starting in 1991. He also played for Colorado, Detroit, Boston and Florida.
