Frank Castillo, who pitched 13 seasons in the majors for the Cubs, Red Sox, and four other teams, drowned Saturday in a lake near his home in Arizona, NBCSports.com reported on Monday afternoon.
He was 44.
Authorities said Castillo was on a pontoon boat on Bartlett Lake with a friend when he decided to go swimming. He entered the water and never surfaced.
"Frank was a wonderful son, terrific brother, and an extraordinary father to his two beautiful girls," Castillo's family said in a statement to Arizona TV station KVIA.
Castillo played for the Cubs for seven years starting in 1991. He also played for Colorado, Detroit, Boston and Florida.
