Hawks Snatch Defeat from Jaws of Victory

Capitals 4 Blackhawks 3 in OT

Everything seemed to be going right for the Blackhawks on Sunday, but then suddenly, nothing was at all.

The Hawks lead 2-0 after the first intermission thanks to two goals from captain Jonathan Toews. Washington's scoring leader, Alex Ovechkin, had been kicked out of the game during the first period on misconduct after running Brian Campbell head-first into the end of the boards.

The Hawks scored again in the second, making it 3-0 going into the third -- but that didn't mean the game would be theirs.

As the third period got going, the Capitals scored once. No biggie. But then, the Capitals made the most of an agonizingly long round of 5-on-3 -- scoring two more goals in quick succession to tie it.

Then, in overtime, Nicklas Backstrom skated up the side, went around Brent Seabrook in the left circle and beat goalie Antti Niemi for an unassisted goal, taking the game for Washington.
